Experience in Media Arts

Media Arts was a fun class to take. I learned how to make videos using iMovie and GarageBand. I had a lot of fun making new friends and learning new stuff. This video above was our last project for English/Media Arts. I thought it was a bit hard to do because my group had to do a lot of research to get this video done. Overall, Media Arts is a fun class and I hope our teacher Ms.Hendrix good luck for next years Media Arts Class!

Questions & Answers

Your group may work together to come up with the answers. But each of you will be given a grade based on your blog entry. It's OK if they are the same IF they're really good.
  1. Which of the 8 rules of Media Literacy is illustrated in the Beauty and Body Image article? Why and how?
  2. The article on advertising to children is a great example of media constructing reality (#2 rule of Media Literacy). Can you think of an example of media constructed reality aimed at teens? Tell me what it is and how it constructs reality.
  3. The commercial implications (#4) of media literacy are illustrated in The Economics of Ethnicity link. Do you think most media does a good job of showing what your real life is like? The number of minority people you see daily, the kinds of problems you have in real life, the way those problems get solved - are these things that you see in TV shows, movies and advertising?
Hopefully, answering these questions will help you understand what media literacy is and guide you in making your presentation. You will be graded on evidence that you read and discussed the articles and the thoroughness of your answer. It's important that you get this job done today. If you don't finish in class, do it for homework.

1. The rule of Media Literacy that illustrates the Beauty and Body Image article is rule number 5 Media contain ideological and value messages because it tells all media is constructed and Media is built by people. Your thinking of the ways you think about all media that makes this world our reality.
2. In other parts of the world it’s not a big deal of kids watching movies people having sex in movies such as Europe.
3. I do think our media does a good job of showing what our real life is like. All advertising is media, and its also giving us what is popular and good in life.

Commercial

This commercial my group and I made is about us telling other students from our school to join orchestra. It took us awhile to make this video because we wanted to make this commercial the best as possible. I thought it was going to be hard to make, but it was actually easy. We went to Ms.Chu class to record her playing and Joe pretending to play on the piano. What I did was that I edited the video to make it look great. I like this commercial because it has a lot of details and think that people may want to join orchestra.

High School

The high school that I have gotten accepted to was Abraham Lincoln High School. I didn't really expect to get into this school because this was my third choice. I am sort of happy that I got into one of my top three high school because I know friends that are going to this school too. I am thinking of appealing to another high school because I want to learn something from another school that this school might not have. Even if the appeal won't be successful, I will be happy with this school still.

TV Advertisement

I like the McDonalds' advertisement. I like it because it has they show people eating burgers and french fries to grab people wanted to try their food. They have a slogan which is "BA DA BA BA BA, I'm lovin' it!." I went there before and there food tasted so good. This advertisement made me start to go to McDonalds because they had a cool advertisement.

PSA

During the weeks of 2/14-2/24, our class were assigned to make PSA. Our class split into groups of 4 to make PSA. My group was going to make a PSA about littering. We used a orange for an example to represent our PSA on littering. We were pretending that one of us were littering the orange peels peeled off  of the orange. Then we made some special effect and showed what you can do instead of throwing it on the floor.
We wanted to make this PSA because we want to stop people from littering. Littering should not be allowed because it will pollute the ocean. The people from the San Francisco Film Society helped us a lot on our PSA a lot. They helped us on special effects on our PSA. I would like to thank the people from the SFFS for helping us on our PSA.

M.C. Escher Assignment Paragraph

This week in Media Arts class I created a picture of Relativity. It was a bit hard to make because we had to make this picture look like M.C. Escher's Relativity picture. You can see that M.C. Escher's picture and my picture are similar by having the people, windows, and stairs in the same spots. I made this picture by looking at Escher's picture carefully and adding in almost every details there was. It was a bit fun in making this picture because you get to learn the style that M.C. Escher make his picture in.

Homework Assignment 1/27/11

Today we were watching the movie "Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back," the Death star was like a nickname for a powerful weapon that was to destroy planets. In the beginning of the movie, the Death Star was being attacked by the Galactic Empire. The Death Star was to allow Emperor Palpatine to control the Galactic Empire through fear.
Darth Vadar was chasing the Princess because she had plans on the Death Star and she hid the plans in her robot. They wanted the plans on the Death Star, and wanted to know how it work out. The Death Star was powerful because it could almost destroy anything.
Luke Skywalker is a jedi and that works with the Rebel Alliance, leading his team against the Galactic Empire. Jedi master Obi Wan Kanobi trains Skywalker to be strong and soon later meets Han Solo and the Princess. Luke Skywalker is an important character because destroy the Death Star and helped the rebels out a lot.

Homework Assignment 1/18/11 (1 paragraph)

I picked a book called "Star Wars Clone Wars Adventures". I picked this book because I want to learn about the Clone Wars that happened in Star Wars. The book has a lot of details in it, like for example you can see the space ship shooting out those lasers to another ship. I like how it is a comic book because you can see who is talking with those bubbles on top of the person who is talking. I like the texture of the artwork because it looks a bit real and a bit fake. The is a interesting book, and I can't wait until I read another volume of this book.

Star Wars V Plot Summary

Luke was traveling in Hoth, an icy planet. He was trying to find something and the Rebels thought that Luke may be lost in Hoth.  An ice monster trapped him in a cave and Luke took out his light saber to attack the ice monster. Once he escaped, he did not know where to go next because he was lost. While Luke was traveling, he saw the spirit of Obi Wan Kenobi and he told Luke to go to the planet Dagobah to find Jedi master Yoda.
Luke is the commander in the Rebel Alliance and Princess Leia Organa is a high ranking official in the Rebellion. R2-D2 is Luke's astromech droid and C-3PO is Leia's protocol droid. Han Solo is a ranking position in the Rebel Alliance. Darth Vader is a bad guy who tries try to take over the world and is the father of Luke. It seems awkward how Darth Vader and Luke are related to one another, but Darth Vader is with the dark force and Luke are on the Rebellions.
The dark force was a part of Darth Vader's army. The dark force tries to take over the world by killing everyone who disagrees with them. The rebellions included Luke, Princess Leia Organs, and Han Solo. The rebellions try to not let the dark force take over the world by having a war them. The movie is a bit interesting because I do not really get what is going on. I like how the movie has goofs in it because we can see how they made the movie by seeing what materials they used to make the movie. The movie was still interesting, but just hard to understand.

Star Wars Goofs

Today I was watching the movie Star Wars:Episode V- The Empire Strikes Back Star Wars. This movie was made like 30 years ago, so the technology wasn't that good and there are goofs. I can see stuff disappearing from scene. When the rebels were fighting the monster, you can see a goof in the guy's goggles.
