Semester Reflection

This semester I learned how to make a podcast. Each week we added something better, like add cool details to grab the attention of the person who is watching the podcast. I learned how to make music in GarageBand and learned how to fade out the music. I also learned how to add music into our podcast, so it can make our podcast sound better. I learned how to make animation in powerpoint. I learned a new site called Kerpoof and it is a very good site to use to make a picture with cool tools. We learned new words from the Word Generation book and got to find pictures that match the word, the word's definition, sentence, and the Word Generation book sentence. It was really fun working with new classmates because you could see what skills they are good or bad at. This semester I learned a lot of things from my media arts class.

Impressionism Allegiance Picture With Kerpoof

This is an impressionist picture of my word for this week, allegiance. This boy is reading the Pledge of Allegiance. It was hard making this picture because I needed to add a lot of details to make this picture look like impressionism. This is my first time making this kind of picture, and It took me like three days to make this picture.

Advertising Challenge

My idea for getting more people to watch our podcast is to tell teachers to tell their students to look at the our podcast for their homework. The teachers should tell their students to write a summary of the podcast and make what they like about it. Also, the latest podcast should be on the front page, so the students can see our latest podcast we made. Students can learn new words by looking at our podcasts. It may improve their vocabulary and their reading skills. This is my advertising challenge idea.

AdvantageWong1 and DerivesWong2

Advantage

clarity of speech
(Can understand every word spoken. Not too fast nor too slow. )

creative look
(the title, images, video and credits are all easy to see and make you want to look at the podcast. Illustrations are related to the word or sentence and feel original and fresh. The credits don’t go by too quickly and are readable. There’s a sense that the whole podcast has the same theme and look)

creative production
(The music adds quality to the podcast. It’s not too loud nor too soft. You can hear speech over the music easily.  The speed of the podcast is even and flows without blank spots or awkward cuts. There’s something interesting about the way it’s all put together. The Kerpoof picture is relevant to the word and a sentence and makes the podcast more interesting)
including all requirements

(This week’s requirement was to use a Kerpoof picture with a cartoon that used at least one of the words. Great means they used more than one. There also must be
1.     definition
2.     WG sentence
3.     Original sentence
4.     Credits with no last names
5.     Bibliography with name of web site and urls
6.     Document named the word)
Great
I can understand everything clearly; the words are in a normal pace.

It has all the requirements that is needed in this column.
Needs a little work

It wasn’t very smooth to start the picture before you finished spelling the word
Talking pretty fast. The picture sequence doesn’t really match words
Transition to a picture of power plant very good

Needs a lot of work or isn’t there at all

Needs a little work
They could have spoken a little faster, because it was a bit too slow.

Needs a lot of work or isn’t there at all

There is no title in the podcast and the podcast doesn’t have enough creative look.
The music is missing.

Kerpoof Picture

Advantage

My picture was really fun to make because there was a lot of choices to choose from Kerpoof.
The picture we chose to use in our podcast was this one, because it shows how our podcast word "Advantage" is being used in this picture.  The reason we chose that one was because it illustrates the main idea of our word in this picture. I feel that Kerpoof was a great site to use in our podcast because it was really easy to use by clicking on the stickers on the side and drag it into the photo.

Word Generation Podcast Week 7 Reflection

It was a great experience working with new classmates in creating the podcast for this week. I have gotten to know my classmates and see in what things they do well. I don't think that everyone contributed equally because it felt like that I had to do most of work. My teammates helped out too, by telling me where we can improve a part in the podcast. At first, I was disagreeing on making the music in the podcast lowered down because they said it was a bit too loud and I wanted it to stay where it was. My teammates asked me to review the podcast again. So I did, and I figured out that the music was a bit louder than our voices. Then, I lowered down the music and when I looked over the podcast again, I thought it was better than before because we can listen to our voices better. It could have been better if we have had assigned each person to do a job instead of me doing most of the work. It could have been better if we had assigned our own group because if we work with the people we want to work with, it may be easier in completing the podcast. Therefore, it was great time working with some new classmates.

Word Generation Week 5 and Week 6

Word Generation Week 5

Word Generation Week 6

In Francisco Middle School, our school started a new program called Word Generation. Word Generation is a program that help students improve their skills in reading, writing, and building new vocabulary words. Each week Ms.Hendrix's Media Arts class will be in charge of making the Word Generation videos to let the school learn the new vocabulary words of the week. When we first started the Word Generation program, you can see that our podcast weren't exactly the way it was suppose to be. During each week, we got better and better in creating the podcast by adding new entertainment to grab the audience's attention. Therefore, our class will make podcasts that help students learn new vocabulary words.
